Gordon Ramsay is one of the most well-known chefs in popular culture today. He’s hosted scores of cookery shows, rising like a soufflé to fame as the acerbic host of Hell’s Kitchen. Sometimes I have nightmares about the hypothetical day Gordon Ramsay launches an unstoppable torrent of profanity against my luxurious dinner of beans on toast. It’s a very real fear I live with.
But, if you were to look past the bravado, what would you find? What’s the real Gordon Ramsay like? Because I can’t believe that he’s as aggressive, offensive and rude in real life as he is portrayed on his TV shows. If he is, then my fears hold far more truth than ever imagined.
With the enigmatic Gordon Ramsay in mind, I was pleasantly surprised to learn a little more about him after Refinery29 spoke to the incensed chef. Not only did he keep the swearing to a minimum, he also elaborated on the one food that he refuses to eat. It’s pretty surprising.
Speaking to Refinery29, Ramsay candidly discussed his preferred foods, with one particular meal being particularly surprising. The fiery chef travels a lot, understandably, but will always, always avoid plane food: “There’s no f*cking way I eat on planes. I worked for airlines for ten years, so I know where this food’s been and where it goes, and how long it took before it got on board.”
So, what does he eat instead? “A nice selection of Italian meats, a little glass of red wines, some sliced apples or pears with some parmesan cheese,” of course. In his words, “I’m like a pig in sh*t.” All sounds very fancy. I’d expect nothing less from a world class chef, though.
It also emerged that the Ramsay family are big on their smoothies, as they use the blender almost every day: “We make the most amazing smoothies to take in the car on the way to school in the morning because [the kids] are always bloody late.” If you’re looking to live life like a Ramsay, then look no further.
