Sylvester Stallone is one of the world’s most famous actors and he is well known for his ability to portray some of the toughest men that have ever been committed to celluloid. Before he became a screen icon, he had one fan who was more important than all of the rest: his dog Butkus.
Stallone recently decided to pay tribute to the best friend who saw him through some of his most difficult times. The Bull Mastiff was there for him during his leanest years and when Stallone was dead broke with two pairs of ill fitting pants and holey shoes to his name, Butkus remained a reliable confidant.
Their unique companionship took some twists and turns along the way, as Sly was once forced to sell Butkus for $40 in order to buy food. Fortunately, he was able to buy the dog once he sold his screenplay for Rocky and while the new owner sensed his desperation and charged $15,000, reuniting with Butkus was worth every penny.
Not only were him and Butkus reunited, but the pup was also given a role in the iconic Rocky film. The two never parted ways after that and while Butkus passed away several years ago, Stallone wanted to provide the pet with a proper tribute.
Even though Butkus died over 30 years ago, his memory will always live on in the heart of his famous owner and if you were unaware of Butkus’ past achievements on the silver screen, you’ll have the chance to check out a scene from Rocky below.
If this story and video have reminded you of your relationship with your pup, be sure to spread the love and pass it along to your closest friends and family members as soon as possible, so that they can appreciate the love that Sly and Butkus shared with one another.
Here’s what social networks say about this:
Tara Gruber Good for you. My Grandparents lived in the depression days and war, where you didn’t waste food and ate everything on your plate. They even went through mixing potatoes with wood from trees. My Dad was so poor and hungry as a child that he ate a can of Strong heart dogfood because they couldn’t afford meat in the house. My Dad also ate the cupcakes with the paper wrapping around it, the whole thing. It’s amazing what people go through in life in hard times.
Svetlana Atenzon My dog has been with me through different times, she always makes me feel better. When I cry, she licks off my tears. When I was sick and coughing alot, she was licking my neck.
Linda Miner Bryan Who the hell sells their dog?
