Tropical Storm Harvey is still battering the Texas coast, after days of heavy rainfall, high winds, and flash floods. There have been dozens of people reported as missing, and many have perished from the treacherous conditions. Countless more continue to be rescued just in the nick of time.
Reports and videos from the flooded areas show cars and homes almost entirely submerged under water, sometimes with people still stuck inside. Rescuers and Texas citizens are keeping their eyes peeled for survivors, and it’s thanks to their diligence that people, such as the elderly man shown below, have been saved.
The elderly man was stuck inside his sinking SUV, and people who saw him struggling knew they had just minutes to keep him from drowning.
Because they didn’t have a rope, they braved the flood waters and formed a human chain to pull him out.
The photos shown below captured the intense rescue, showing the courage and resilience of Texas residents.
Stephanie Mata was driving adjacent to a flooded road when she witnessed an incredible rescue.
Before her very eyes, a human chain was forming to rescue an elderly man trapped inside a sinking SUV.
Stephanie and several others watched in awe as total strangers joined the human chain, clasping hands and locking arms to save the man who was just minutes away from being totally submerged.
In no time, thanks to teamwork and strength, the strangers managed to pull the elderly man out.
He was carried away to safety, and a cop checked on him after the ordeal. However, his current condition is not known.
Stephanie took a picture of the SUV moments later. As anyone can see, the elderly man was saved in the nick of time.
Local news stations quickly picked up on the heroism of these individuals, and a photo of their human chain has been widely shared.
