Mold is an awful and terribly nasty thing. Not only is it dirty, gross, and smelly but it can get you very sick and be downright dangerous.
So, you’ll want to immediately remove it once you spot some in your home.
But you don’t have to go filling your home with nasty chemicals. There are plenty of natural remedies that can get rid of and prevent mold.
1) Distilled Ethanol
Distilled grain alcohols like vodka will get rid of mold and mildew very quickly. And the cheaper the alcohol the better since it is distilled less and contains more congeners that are toxic to fungus.
2) Keep It Dry
Mold thrives off moisture. So, the best way to prevent mold and/or stop it from coming back is to install mold and mildew air filers. Make sure you completely dry all areas in your home when there is a moisture build-up or flood.
3) Tea Tree Oil
Mix one cup of water and a teaspoon of tea tree oil in your spray bottle. Spray this concoction on the mold or in a place that often gets mold. Let the spray sit overnight. Rub the area down with more tea tree oil in the morning to get rid of the rest of the mold.
4) Hydrogen Peroxide
Use 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and spray it onto the mold and let it set for 10 minutes before you scrub the area with a rag. This will kill mold and prevent it. Be careful when using peroxide because it can have a bleaching effect.
5) Baking Soda
Make a paste from one part of baking soda and one part water. Rub the paste over the mold and let it dry. Once it’s dry you can wipe it away. Use the paste and an old toothbrush to scrub away any stubborn spots. This is a good method for mold that smells.
6) Grapeseed Extract
Grapeseed, or any citrus seed extract, is great for getting rid of mold on lots of surfaces. Just take 2 teaspoons of it and mix it with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray the affected area and wipe away an excess but don’t rinse it off.
White distilled vinegar can solve lots of household cleaning problems, including mold. Spray it right on the affected area and wipe it up. Use a toothbrush for deep scrubbing.
8) Borax and Vinegar
Get a bucket and mix together a 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of borax in a quart of warm water. Stir it up well and pour onto moldy areas. Use a sponge to get rid of the mold.
