It had been a long day for members of the Colton Fire Department as they spent it fighting the La Cadena fire in La Loma Hills. So going to dinner at a local Denny’s sounded like the best option for food at that time. But they weren’t expecting this woman to come along, and make their day 100 times better.
After seeing these officers sitting down for dinner, and seeing how exhausted they were, this woman went up to the counter, and asked to pay for the 25 firefighters’ meals. Of course, all while remaining anonymous.
She was thankful that they had been working so hard, and appreciated everything they have done, and continue to do, for the community.
She knew the bill was going to be expensive, yet she didn’t care. She paid $355 or the food, $50 for the tip, and even was as generous as to add $100 gift card for dessert for the next round of arriving firefighters. They couldn’t believe it.
“It boosts morale. People normally bake cookies, make sandwiches, or give us sodas or cold water, as thanks for the guys’ hard work. The guys really appreciate it,” said Fire Department Public Information Officer Capt. Tom DeBellis.
They are hoping that the woman, who still remains a mystery, hears about how thankful these officers are. And we do too. What she did was amazing, and she truly deserves to recognized for it.
Chief Tim McHargue was at the restaurant at the time, she said that he “felt bad that he couldn’t say thank you.”
We are just so thankful that this woman decided to do this for the officers. She has no idea how much that truly meant to them.
