North Korea on Sunday threatened to sink a U.S. aircraft carrier sailing toward the reclusive Asian nation “with a single strike” — just days after Vice President Pence sternly warned “the era of strategic patience is over” while touring the Demilitarized Zone.
“Our revolutionary forces are combat-ready to sink a U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier with a single strike,” read a commentary in Rodong Sinmun, the Workers’ Party of Korea’s official paper, according to Reuters.
The piece went on to compare the USS Carl Vinson strike group — which the U.S. directed to the Korean Pensinsula this week amid an escalating war of words between the isolated dictatorship and the U.S. — to a “gross animal.”
North Korea’s supposed strike would be “an actual example to show our military’s force,” added the commentary, which ran after a report on supreme leader Kim Jong-un’s inspecting a pig farm.
The Vinson strike group, along with Japanese destroyers, started conducting joint exercises in the Philippine Sea on Sunday.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea also accused U.S. ally Australia on Saturday of “blindly and zealously toeing the U.S. line” — and warned of a potential nuclear strike.
“If Australia persists in following the U.S. moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK and remains a shock brigade of the U.S. master, this will be a suicidal act of coming within the range of the nuclear strike of the strategic force of the DPRK,” a spokesperson for the North’s foreign ministry said in a frank statement.
Meanwhile, a Korean-American professor — believed to be the third U.S. citizen to be detained by North Korea — was arrested Friday at Pyongyang International Airport as he tried to leave the country, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported Sunday.
U.S.-North Korea tensions have skyrocketed in recent days as the paranoid military empire conducts nuclear and missile tests and tries its hardest to intimidate the West.
The North’s government, for example, threatened the U.S. on Thursday with a “super-mighty preemptive strike” that would “immediately wipe out not only U.S. imperialists’ invasion forces in South Korea and its surrounding areas but the U.S. mainland and reduce them to ashes.”
Here’s what social networks say about this:
Elie PierreLouis NK couldn’t sink a row boat! NYDN is a joke for continuing to report news that is superfluous at best. Why don’t you write about the military might of the greatest country on earth the United States of America!
Keith Sullivan Yeah, when I was young, I once threatened to fly my bike in orbit and do circles around the Universe. I had my fake rocket pack on the bottom of my bike. But… Incredibly that didn’t happen either. I wouldn’t worry about the crazy fat kid. His days are numbered.
Raymond Bridgewater Republicans in office this country goes to war why.Its all about the money they have no problem.Sending our American troops to die for profit it’s a dam shame.
Mckenzie Brookes Wow! This is not funny . I hope there is no war , if you do not think of yourself , please think of the other human beings who would be destroyed . How about the children who have a God given right to live like your children . May God grant us peace . And may diplomacy, reigns supreme .
Art Richardson Pig face is just plain stupid. With all the money we spend on the DOD we better be able to wipe him and is military in about a week . I don’t want a war with N Korea, but I fear its gonna happen
Joycelyn Avery Even though it still has some serious problems to iron out the United States has matured. The U.S is a melting pot for the whole world, and has tried to be a free and loving land. Already just with the threat of war I regret us ALL not trying harder to get along and regret not treating each other with more care internationally. Please may the creator of this beautiful planet let the cup of pending destruction & death pass over us ALL just a little while longer. Give us more time to make things right.
