Is it me, or is there a new trend of celebrities randomly saying they’re going to run for office?
In 2020, we could genuinely see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson up against Kanye West for the presidential hot seat. Imagine, for one moment, Kanye West being President of the USA. Kanye is a man so charged up on emotion, and he seems to just act on impulse, rather than logic. Exactly the sort of person we all need with the nuclear codes in his top pocket…
Combine these characteristics with the fact that Kanye has no political experience in his life, and it’s fair to say that Yeezy doesn’t exactly have the facets of a great leader, if I’m being honest. However, Johnson seems like a good guy. People like The Rock, right? And if they don’t, who is genuinely going to say no to him? Those hands look like they called crush my skull with no problem, so I can’t imagine too many people standing up to him.
However, another celebrity is now throwing their hat into the political ring. Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympian and parent to two of the Kardashian clan, says that she interested in “the political side of activism” and would decide in the next six months or so whether to run for the U.S. Senate in California.
Speaking to radio host John Catsimatidis, lifelong Republican supporter Jenner, said she needs to work out whether she would be suitable for the role before putting her name forward.
“Over the next six months or so I gotta find out where I can do a better job. Can I do a better job from the outside working the perimeter of the political scene, being open to talking to anybody, or are you better off from the inside? We are in the process of determining that. But yeah, I would look for a senatorial run.”
Jenner said she has been working with multiple LBGTQ activist groups to try and improve her party’s stance on certain issues, and says that she has been left feeling “disappointed in a few ways” by Donald Trump’s handling of LGBTQ+ policies.
Jenner has previous in terms of being critical of Trump: in February 2017, she was critical of his decision to reverse federal guidance on anti-discrimination protections for transgender students, labelling it as a “disaster”. However, she feels a lot of Trump’s views are swayed by those that are around him, and not necessarily the president himself.
Hosting on the programme The View, Jenner said she was working with members of the current administration to try and improve the rights of the LBGTQ community, and recognised the party’s short-fallings on the issue.
“The Democrats do a much better just when it comes to [LGBTQ] issues. I know that, I’m not stupid,” Jenner said on the daytime talk show. “The Republicans need help, and I’m there to help them.”
So there we have it, another celebrity politician could be on the cards. We could see Caitlyn, Kanye and The Rock all entering the political ring in the not too distant future, joining the current president, who lest we forget, didn’t have any political experience before becoming the most powerful man in the world.
