Gun control is a hotly disputed topic in America in recent years. Although Pew studies point out that more than half of Americans want stricter gun laws, the stark divide between the two major parties in America, the Republicans and Democrats, make reaching a middle-ground on the controversial topic near impossible.
But calls for greater gun control are not unfounded. Gun attacks remain rife in the the country and recent sprees have had lethal consequences. The 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting produced a public outcry from all corners of the globe when lone shooter, 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children between the ages of six and seven, as well as six adult staff members. This not only made it the deadliest shooting at a school in the country’s history but also the third-deadliest mass shooting ever seen in the USA.
Despite attacks like these happening with alarming frequency, calls for greater gun control have not been implemented with stringency.
